Since 1891, New Orleans Firefighters have protected the city of New Orleans with unwavering courage and loyalty. Currently there are 700 men and women who work to protect the city.
A group of business leaders created The New Orleans Firefighters Foundation in August, 2006. This nonprofit 501(c)3 organization supports the men and women of the New Orleans Fire Department with fundraising efforts and partnerships with other foundations. The Foundation thanks the New Orleans Rotary Club for creating the “Fire Fighters Look Hot” calendar project in 2008. The proceeds from the 2008 and 2009 calendars allowed the Rotary Club to make donations of over $120,000 which directly benefited the work of the New Orleans firefighters.
NOFF assumed the sponsorship of the 2010 New Orleans Firefighters Look Hot calendar. The calendar sales generated over $38,000 which the foundation used to purchase thermal imagers and computer fire-training simulators.
The Foundation appreciates the many fans of the calendar who support the fund-raising efforts with the purchase of the 2011 calendar. To learn more about the New Orleans Firefighters Foundation, please visit their website: www.supportnofd.com.
The calendar sales will generate funds which the foundation will use to purchase additional thermal imagers.
A thermal imager translates infrared radiation into a viewable image, which shows a heat picture of the scene. Because infrared radiation is not blocked by smoke, firefighters can use thermal imagers to see through smoke enabling them to find victims faster, to identify the seat of the fire earlier, and to detect structural dangers that could put firefighters at risk.
